A York, Nebraska farmer is facing challenging conditions as he nears the finish line for the 2023 harvest season.
Jerry Stahr tells the Rural Radio Network that a wind and rain event caused down corn for a field of his north of York.
Jerry farms with his son, as they primarily focus on a corn and soybean rotation, with the majority of his land being irrigated.
The growing season will be remembered as a challenging one, as his fields received 13 to 14 inches of rain. A typical year would feature 24 to 27 inches of rain.
As of the middle of October, Jerry said he's completed 100% of his soybean harvest and is nearing the end of the corn harvest, with only a few acres left to go. The soybean yield appears to be impacted by a sudden late-season heatwave.
Overall, Stahr sees 2023 as a tough year and will be looking forward to improvements in 2024.
