Chronicles of Kayla | Calving Season, Cameras & Real Life π π· π€

Today's episode takes you through a day on our farm during the heart of calving season, with some real personal updates mixed in.
We're working on installing security cameras in the barn - a project that's honestly been a lifesaver. We discuss placement, power, and connectivity to make sure we can monitor our herd remotely, especially during times when we're away from the farm.
The calves are arriving daily, and we have a nursery area where we're documenting each new arrival. We're also managing some challenges like potential mismothering, which requires us to separate and carefully pair up cows with the correct calves. It's detailed work, but watching these new lives arrive is one of the joys of farming.
Our daily routine includes mixing feed rations using wet cake, triticale bales, and dry hay. These rations are determined based on nutritional analysis from labs to ensure proper health for our cows, heifers, and show calves. We're using a new mixer wagon that's an improvement, though we're noting that the knives have become dull and will need replacement soon to better process the hay.
I want to be honest with you - my family is navigating some discouraging news from recent medical appointments, and there are upcoming follow-ups ahead. These circumstances have made creating content more challenging than usual.
I want to remind you that I'm a farmer, wife, and mother first. This online presence is a hobby - a way for me to share our story and use writing and blogging as a therapeutic outlet. I'm deeply grateful for the support and prayers you've sent our way. It means more than you know.
While I've recorded some podcast episodes, they're currently in draft mode because the content is raw and emotional. But I'm committed to continuing to share our journey as we navigate both the farming season and our family's health challenges. Because sometimes the real stories - the messy, hard, honest ones - are the most important ones to tell.
