From free pork reaching consumers in Kansas to pork producers taking their priorities to Capitol Hill, here’s a look at what’s happening across the U.S. pork industry — plus a conversation with Illinois country music artist Tyson Schulte.
J-Six Enterprises is connecting directly with consumers in Sabetha, Kansas, with a free ground pork giveaway at Garrett’s Country Mart. Customers can receive a free one-pound package of ground pork while supplies last, giving the pork producer an opportunity to put pork directly into the hands of local families.
In Ohio, the Ohio Pork Council is seeking nominations for its 2026 pork industry awards. Four awards will recognize individuals, families, businesses and industry members for their contributions to pork production, leadership, service and pork promotion. Nominations are due October 31, with recipients set to be recognized at the Ohio Pork Congress in February 2027.
In Washington, D.C., nearly 150 pork producers representing 24 states participated in the National Pork Producers Council’s Legislative Action Conference. Producers visited approximately 175 congressional offices, with California Proposition 12 among the issues discussed with lawmakers. NPPC is asking Congress to include a legislative solution to Proposition 12 in the final farm bill. Producers also discussed swine health funding, agricultural labor and trade.
Then, we go from Capitol Hill to country music.
Illinois country artist Tyson Schulte grew up showing pigs and cattle, spent ten years in 4-H and served as an Illinois State FFA officer before building an independent country music career.
Tyson has opened for artists including Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn, Craig Morgan, Tracy Lawrence and Gretchen Wilson — while keeping his agricultural and livestock roots at the heart of his music.
Rachel Fishback sits down with Tyson to talk about going from the show ring to the country music stage, performing for the livestock community, building a career independently and the Tyson Schulte songs farmers should add to their harvest playlist.
