Heavy Equipment vs. Our New Orchard Project | Pomes and Stones
10m
We’re turning an empty field into the next block of our apple orchard, but getting ready to plant apple trees this fall didn’t go exactly as planned. Before we could mark our orchard rows, we ran into a problem with all the leftover grass and cuttings from mowing, which were balling up underneath the tractor and making it nearly impossible to work the field properly.
So we called in some local farmers and row-crop equipment we normally don’t use on our specialty crop farm to rake, bale, and clean up the field before finally marking the rows for our future apple orchard. This is a behind-the-scenes look at apple orchard planting, field preparation, row marking, farm equipment, hay raking, baling, and the work that goes into establishing a new high-density apple orchard.
