Today we’re cleaning up tree lines, property lines, and overgrown woodlots using our Hitachi 160 excavator and a CAT 936 front-end loader here on the farm. This field was recently purchased and had a few acres of old timber and logging debris left behind in the middle of productive ground. Now we’re taking the time to clear it out properly so we can improve efficiency, expand our acreage, and prepare this site for new apple tree plantings in 2026.
In this video, I walk through how we use the excavator to remove stumps, brush, old logs, and roots, along with the front-end loader to move debris, level ground, and reshape the property lines. Clearing these woodlots not only helps reclaim usable acreage but also improves farm layout, drainage, and long-term orchard development. Whether you’re interested in heavy equipment work, Hitachi excavators, CAT loaders, land clearing, property cleanup, agriculture, or Michigan specialty crops, this video shows a full look at what it takes to reclaim neglected land and turn it back into productive farmland.
We’re getting this ground ready for future apple orchard expansion, and this is the first big step toward planting high-quality apple trees, improving orchard efficiency, and boosting fruit production here in Northern Michigan. Follow along as we make progress reclaiming farmland, maintaining tree lines, and preparing for the next season of growth on the farm.
