Pork Industry News: Big Ten Rivalry Leads to $2,000 Pork Donation to Indiana Food Banks
A friendly Big Ten Championship rivalry between Ohio Pork and Indiana Pork Farmers turned into a win for families in need just a few days ago — proving once again that pork producers know how to bring the heat both on and off the field.
Ahead of the Ohio State vs. Indiana matchup, the two powerhouse pork-producing states made a neighborly wager:
The losing state pork association would donate $2,000 worth of pork products to the winning state’s food banks.
It was a fun, good-spirited challenge designed to spark community engagement and highlight the generosity of America’s pig farmers. Ohio Pork entered confidently, cheering on the Buckeyes — but when the final score settled, it was Indiana who came out on top.
Update: The pork is officially coming to Indiana! 🎉
Thanks to the wager, Indiana food banks will soon receive a donation of fresh, high-quality pork from Ohio pig farmers. This contribution ensures families across the state will enjoy nutritious pork protein during the holiday season — a meaningful gift rooted in community support and industry pride.
Although the competition on the field was fierce, off the field the message remains the same: pork producers are united in service. Whether it’s through charitable giving, friendly challenges, or statewide hunger relief efforts, pig farmers continue to show up for their communities.
A little regional rivalry.
A lot of heart.
And a big win for Indiana families.
Stay tuned for more stories celebrating pork producers, industry partnerships, and community impact.
