Iowa Pork Producers Donate 38,000 Servings of Pork to Fight Hunger Across Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA), in partnership with Fareway Stores, Inc., has once again stepped up to support local families and fight food insecurity across the state. Together, they donated more than 9,500 pounds of ground pork — equal to 38,000 servings of protein — to food banks across Iowa and western Nebraska.
The donation, valued at $20,000, was distributed to six regional food banks including the Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines, River Bend Food Bank in Davenport, Northeast Iowa Food Bank in Waterloo, HACAP Food Reservoir in Hiawatha, the Food Bank of Siouxland in Sioux City, and the Food Bank for the Heartland in Omaha.
Funds for this large-scale donation were raised through Iowa Pork’s annual BBQ & Brew at the Ballpark event, which brings together pork producers, industry partners, and local supporters to raise money for hunger-relief efforts and community programs.
The ground pork donations provide a valuable source of protein for families in need. According to the Iowa Food Bank Association, protein remains one of the most in-demand and least-donated food items at pantries across the state. By providing fresh, nutritious pork, Iowa’s pig farmers are helping ensure families have access to high-quality food that supports healthy, balanced diets.
This initiative is part of Iowa Pork’s ongoing Pork in the Pantry program, which encourages local pork producer organizations and partners to make pork donations throughout the year. The program reflects the pork industry’s We Care principles, emphasizing community support, animal care, environmental responsibility, and food safety.
Through ongoing partnerships and grassroots efforts, the Iowa Pork Producers Association and Fareway continue to demonstrate how Iowa agriculture plays a vital role in feeding communities and strengthening the connection between farmers and families.
