The Iowa Pork Producers Association is investing in the future of the pork industry by welcoming two college students as summer interns for 2026. Kaitlynn DeBlock of Aledo, Illinois, and Erin Driscoll of Williamsburg, Iowa, are gaining hands-on experience in communications, outreach, agricultural policy, and pork industry leadership development while working alongside Iowa Pork this summer.
DeBlock, a junior studying Agricultural Communications at Iowa State University, is serving as the promotions and outreach intern. She’ll assist with county pork promotions, support the Bacon Buddies® program, help coordinate summer grilling events, and work on the popular Farrowing Display at the Iowa State Fair’s Animal Learning Center.
Meanwhile, Driscoll, a senior studying Agricultural and Natural Resources Communications at Kansas State University, is serving as Iowa Pork’s legislative intern. Her summer began in Washington, D.C., where she is attending congressional hearings, meeting with lawmakers, and learning firsthand how federal policy impacts pork producers and rural communities.
“I’m excited to spend the summer in Washington, D.C. and Des Moines representing Iowa pork producers, gaining valuable industry experience, and learning more about the intersection of agriculture, communications, and policy,” said Driscoll.
Both students plan to pursue careers in agriculture after graduation as Iowa Pork continues investing in the next generation of leaders who will help strengthen the pork industry for years to come.
