Mike Coots is in the field checking Brix levels, a measure of the sugar content in plant sap. Higher Brix levels generally indicate efficient photosynthesis and nutrient uptake plus better ability to resist pests and diseases.
What you need to know about Brix levels:
✅ Ideal Brix = 12 or higher
⚠️ Low Brix? That can mean your plants are more vulnerable to insect pressure.
🕒 Best time to test? Afternoon. Always compare readings taken at the same time of day for accurate tracking.
What you’ll need: a pocketknife, a garlic press (which you can buy at any store that sells kitchen tools) and a refractometer (there are several affordable options on Amazon).
TEVA TIP: If your Brix readings are consistently low, it might be time to add a sugar source like MMTS and start or refine a soil health and fertility program.
