Today at Griggs Farms, corn planting is all about collecting data. Data on seed varieties, different products, and different practices. Matt has 40 acres dedicated to test plots and he talks about how farmers doing their own testing is the only practice that has the greatest return on investment on the farm. In addition to testing seed varieties from University of Tennessee and Pioneer, Matt also has plots testing a new hot product to enhance fertilizer efficiency, Nutricharge and Powerplant. He is also testing to see if deep ripping on his farm will lead to big yield increases. Matt also talks about his plans to make up the lost nitrogen on the first 110 acres of corn planted.
